    You must have sufficient resources and demonstrate that you can afford to purchase land for your self-build or custom housebuilding project.

    This criterion applies to Part 1 and Part 2 of the register.  The Council has the right to set this eligibility criterion as set out in The Self Build and Custom Housebuilding Regulations 2016 (October 2016) Part 5.

    Evidence of sufficient resources to purchase land should include one, or a combination of the following:

    • Details of savings or equity that could be used to purchase land at a realistic or average land value.
    • In principle bank loan agreement or offer of a self-build mortgage from a  verifiable and recognised lender (such as a member of the Council of Mortgage Lenders).  Evidence must show that the release of funds for the purchase of the land covers the purchase of a plot at a realistic market land value.
    • Written confirmation and evidence from a qualified financial advisor with an active membership of an appropriate professional body.  Evidence should clearly demonstrate that you have sufficient readily accessible funds or equity to purchase land.
    • Any other information which demonstrates to the Council’s satisfaction that  you have sufficient resources to purchase land for your own self-build or custom housebuilding
    • For associations of individuals, this form should be completed for each individual.

    Once you have completed and submitted this form, you will be taken to the Surrey Heath secure payment page where you can pay for your self build registration.
  • Fees

    Fees are now payable to enter onto and remain on the Register. This enables the Council to cover the cost of the administration of the Register. Initial fees will be payable to enter onto Part 1 and 2 of the Register. If payment is not made, the applicant will not be added to the Register. If your application is not successful any fees paid will be refunded. Annual fees will be payable thereafter to remain on the Register for entrants on Part 1 only. In the event the annual fee is not paid, entrants will be moved to Part 2 of the Register. The initial and annual fees are as follows:-

    Data Protection Act 2018

    The information provided above and any personal or financial information subsequently gathered in regards to your application will be held securely by Surrey Heath Borough Council for the purposes of registering applicants as showing interest in self-build and custom housebuilding within the Borough of Surrey Heath. The information held may be used by the Council and other public bodies that have a duty to have regard to information contained in the Self-build Register in undertaking their services and functions. The Register will not be publicly available, but some anonymised data, such as the number of successful entries on the  Register, may be published.  You have the right to opt-out of your  information being used and stored by the Council for the purposes of the  Self-building register at any time, to opt-out email: selfbuild@surreyheath.gov.uk

    Data Retention

    The personal information you provide to the Council for the purposes of the self-build register will be retained for a period of 6 years. Following 6 years, you will be asked if you wish to remain on the register. If you request to be removed or you do not respond, you will be removed from the register and your personal data will be deleted at the next data cleanse.     You have been provisionally selected as a 'Part 1' candidate due to your connections with Surrey Heath borough and / or HM armed forces. To complete your application you are required to make an online payment of £125 as you have indicated that you are part of an association.

  • Part 2 candidate (individual)

    You have been provisionally selected as a 'Part 2' candidate due to your connections with Surrey Heath borough and / or HM armed forces. To complete your application you are required to make an online payment of £75.
