Draft recommendations for Western Surrey Heath
The western area of Surrey Heath borough does not currently have any parish or town councils. Parish councils can play a role in providing local services and involving people in their local community. They may manage some local services, such as allotments or parks, and seek to improve quality of life in the area and will act as a statutory consultee on planning matters.
Parish Councils set their own budget requirements and are funded through a precept, which forms part of residents’ Council Tax bills.
Two consultations have invited residents’ views on whether the communities within this part of the borough would be better served by having a parish or town council. Following these consultations, the Council has concluded that there is insufficient public support for creating new parishes in western Surrey Heath.
